Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Housed in a smooth, modern-looking design, this 1000-watt electric kettle rapidly boils up to 1 quart of water for coffee, tea, instant soups, and more. The unit features a detachable cord and a nonspill spout for graceful serving, plus a generous handle with a secure grip. Its immersed heating element provides a rapid and quiet heating process, making it ideal for the office, home, or college dorm. Dual water-level indicators allow for convenient filling, and the unit's easy-open lid is designed with a security lock to prevent spilling. And there's no need to worry about leaving it on, the kettle automatically shuts off when the water boils, and its boil-dry protection keeps the unit from boiling when there's no water left

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - submerged heating coil means FAST boiling
This electric kettle boils water really quickly because the heating element is a submerged coil, not just a plate on the bottom.
The kettle automatically turns off when the water boils. It doesn't make a sound though to let you know when this has happened - only a slight clicking noise as the on-off switch physically flicks to off - so if you want boiling water, it's best not to walk away. Just watch it until it boils. Luckily it only takes a minute or two since the kettle is so fast.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - For $15 can't be beat
For a $15 expenditure cannot be beat. Made of plastic (not great but does the job-especially for $15), does not take long to warm up, relatively easy to clean, easy to see water level. The only critique is that it comes with an electric cord that is about 3 ft long. It would have been nice if it included a longer cord.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Ideal
Works great for boiling water for Tea. Like many others said earlier, the lid does not open and shut smoothly. I had to boil and discard the water a few times before I started using the kettle as it has quite a strong smell of plastic initially. I like the detachable cord feature and the compact design of the kettle.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Proctor Silex K2070H 1-Quart Automatic Electric Kettle, White
This piece of merchandise is the first that I did not care for.
After heating up several quarts of water, the water still had a chemical, unappetizing taste to it.

Amazon.com should not sell merchandize that rates minus five stars.

I was totally disappointed and I will never ever purchase a Proctor Silex product again.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great for what it's designed to do
I've had this kettle for three months now and it's worked like a charm. I use it to boil water for tea, oatmeal and cup o' noodles ever so often. A full container boils in about a minute or two and shuts of automatically.
Three things to watch out for though:
1) The cord it comes with is only about two feet long. Thankfully, the cord is pretty generic. I had a longer one lying around from my old printer.
2) After a couple of months of daily use the heating irons will start to accumulate ... Read More
