Weighing in at less than 12 ounces and measuring just 11 inches wide, the Pentax DSmobile lets you carry around all you need to scan everything from a business card to an 8.5 by 14 inch document. The scanner draws power from its USB interface so no clunky AC adapter is needed. Bring it along with you and you can instantly transmit a printed page via email, fax, or the web. The scanner has a hardware optical resolution of 300 dpi and the included OCR software automatically converts the document to editable text.

The scanner uses a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) to achieve its smaller volume and lighter weight, and also requires less power consumption and lower maintenance than a traditional CCD. The DSmobile has few moving parts, which promotes high reliability and nearly maintenance-free operation. It consumes only 0.2 watt of power in standby mode and a maximum of 2.2 watts of power when scanning. This is a great little scanner - I stress the word little! I'm mainly using this scanner as a means to create a digital library of all of my recipes...and I have thousands. The Pentax is so small it fits easily into my laptop bag (don't let dimensions mentioned deter you). I've not had any problems with the software that came with it. My only complaint would be that it sometimes pulls the papers through crooked and that it doesn't always register the paper thickness, but I can't hold that against ... Read More

I have been using this product at work for over a year. When going to clients all I have to do is scann the information I need instead of making photocopies of everything. It's a great tool for going paperless. So when my husband saw me using it he thought he would like it for his job which requires a lot of work orders and contracts. Rating: - Fanstastic Design, Form, Fit and Function
I travel frequently and needed a portable scanner for my receipts and invoices. The Pentax DSmobile 600 exceeded my needs. The page feed is intelligent and the software excellent and easy to use. At home I am now using it instead of my desktop scanner, simply because it works better.

I seldom recommend products, but make an exception when they are clearly superior like this one.

Everyone! Save your money. If you need to quickly scan something, just use your digital camera! It will probably even come out higher quality!

Rating: - Not Vista compatible
The scanner works great. The accompanying software from NewSoft, PageManager, is not Vista compatible and they have no upgrades for this version on their website. Very frustrating to discover at the end of 2008. Time to get with the program...
