Extreme Measures: A Thriller
- Mitch Rapp is BackThe wait is over for all you Mitch Rapp fans!!! The terrorists are back and they are determined to spill as much American blood as possible. In "Extreme Measures," Vince Flynn has not only brought back his infamous spy as a protagonist who has a tendency to eliminate every American blood spilling vigilante on the planet but more importantly he brought back a type of book that we haven't read since the glorious Cold War days of Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and John LeCarre. Not only does the reader fall in love with the dangerous but necessary Mitch Rapp but Flynn's inside knowledge of military and intelligence schemes leaves the reader with a sense of dread and paranoia they haven't felt since 9/11 and height of the Cold War. Don't worry with a hero like Mitch Rapp on America's side, we are a safer than a soccer mom in a VW mini-van.
"Extreme Measures," is Vince Flynn's 10th spy thriller and he hasn't missed one step or even shuffled whatsoever. Of course the deadly but morally sound Mitch Rapp returns to defend America against Al-Qaeda but he's joined by an equally impressive C.I.A. operative in Mike Nash. A cell of Al-Qaeda terrorists have escaped the clutches of all international intelligence agencies and have begun a suicide mission that ultimately will end on the doorsteps of America's politicians. Using his motto of protect America under any circumstances, Rapp receives crucial information about this plot but soon finds himself sabotaged by his own government. In a time when the United States of America has a bright red target on it's head and with every terrorist organization in the world holding a target rifle full of hollowed point bullets, Flynn analyzes an important issue that surrounds the war on terror; how far is too far? Flynn carefully constructs a plotline that makes every reader question their own morality and how far would they go to protect their own country and inevitably loved ones. We already know that Mitch Rapp will do absolutely everything in his power and break disobey every line, paragraph, and notation in the Geneva Convention but will this be enough?
Rating:
- Extreme MeasuresI read the book and the available reviews at the time. I would say Extreme Measures was on par with the rest of Flynn's work. Having said that, I do enjoy the Mitch Rapp character more than Mike Nash family man. Rapp works better alone. Just turn him lose and he'll take care of it.

- Flynn hits another one out of the park!We have enjoyed all of Vince Flynn's previous Mitch Rapp books and this one is no exception. He's added new characters to consider, a new attitude for Mitch and the same no-b.s. attitude for Kennedy. We recommend this book loud and often. Excellent job, Mr. Flynn!

- exciting! This was a great gift for my husband who loves historical fiction. The Author obviously did a lot of research about terrorism and the history of terrorism.
Rating:
- Extreme Measures (Torture)--When It is Justified and When It Is Not...Vince Flynn's exciting new novel--and aren't all of his books exciting!!--doesn't seek to answer that question philosophically, just on a case-by-case example, and he does so very effectively, from the family level to to the level of national security. The issues are the same, only the consequences differ.
This book is a very real scenario of what could happen if the "do-gooders" ever get control of Washington and make us try to live like lambs in the very real, sometimes scary and terrifiing world.
It would be a mistake to label the characters in this book as Republican or Democratic/liberal or conservative. Flynn, appropriately, does a good job of emphasizing that there are people of both pursuasions on both sides of the aisle.
This book is about the all-too-real scenario of torture/not to torture when the nation is in immediate danger. Not much philosophy here, just what could be the real scenario.
In a surprising twist, Mitch Rapp doesn't win this one, but the stage is set for a dramatic sequal. The addition of Mike Nash gives even more depth, substance and personality to an already terrifying CIA encounter with terrorism.
Vince Flynn is A-One , and this is just another in a long line of outstanding reads.
And a word to Mitch Rapp: "Get that sonavabitch!!!"
