Rating: - Scanner simple to use/set up, works with Vista, will do everything you will need it to do
I bought this scanner last month with the intention of being able to scan some old negatives (35 mm and 120 format film), slides, and photos, along with the occasional document. For the price and what I am looking for (personal use and printing photos from scans), this scanner has been great and I would recommend it for any amateur, prosumer, or even professional looking for a quality, yet inexpensive scanner.

Canon CanoScan 8800F Scanner: I read a bunch of reviews before ordering. It sounded like it would be easy to use. I have boxes of old slides and I had thought about having them scanned for me. I think I have saved quite a bit of money. I had some slides that I couldn't even tell what they were and with just a few adjustments I can see the pictures. I purchased this scanner to scan in my father's old slides (1950's to 1980's), and a bucnh of older photos..

Set-up (connection, software install): this step was fairly easy and straight forward.

Software: comes with several titles including both the PC and the Mac version of Photoshop Elements 5.0. I already have Photoshop CS3, so no need for the Elements software BUT, I have found that the some of the software which was installed during the initial set-up allows for ... Read More

Rating: - HP replacement
I replaced my HP 4500 series scanner with the Canon 8800 after I found that to replace the HP burned-out bulb I had to buy a $99 (plus mailing) assembly. The Canon machine is fine but the application software is not as good (for my purposes) as the HP was after upgrading the OCR portion. Other than that, I am pleased with the purchase.
